 Shipping Cabin - Luxury Low Cost Residences: 1-Exterior Shipping containers are ubiquitous the world over. A whole industry has been developed, honed and perfected to efficiently and safely move these containers. Imagine designing and building quality, luxury, low cost residences in a controlled manufacturing environment on Canada's west coast (or anywhere for that matter) and shipping them inexpensively to Spain, Bolivia, or Iceland. top  Shipping Cabin - Luxury Low Cost Residences: 2-Structure Using shipping containers can be utilized as the fundamental building blocks of a whole new architectural style. One which can be easily adapted to any environment or cultural necessity. This concept uses a single 40'x8' shipping container and a simple glass and aluminum frame, ground level enclosure. top  Shipping Cabin - Luxury Low Cost Residences: 3-Building Section The Cabin is raised 9' above the ground supported on four wooden telephone pole type columns. The roof is a simple system of arched trusses and corrugated steel culvert (12' diameter). top  Shipping Cabin - Luxury Low Cost Residences: 4-Lower Floor The ground level floor is a simple, open, flexible space capable of accommodating many different eating / sitting arrangements. The minimal kitchen is a built-in assembly on the narrow wall. The doors and windows create an almost invisible transition between the interior and exterior spaces. top  Shipping Cabin - Luxury Low Cost Residences: 5-Upper Floor The shipping container makes up the structure of the upper floor. The container houses the bedroom, storage unit and bathroom. The container's doors can open wide up when the cabin is in use and securely lock when the cabin is not in use. top |
