![]() Eco-Cargo 1 Eco-Cargo Living Space is based on three primary underlying themes: Healthy, Simple, Efficient Healthy
top ![]() Eco-Cargo 2 There are many different characteristics of shipping containers that make CargoSpace Living an attractive idea. An end-of-life container lends itself very well to being categorized a "green" building material. It saves the energy and space of transporting an empty shipping container to Asia for recycling, the Kilo-Joules of energy to shred and melt the steel, and the massive amounts of energy required to create and transport steel structural and cladding materials. Finally, the number of trees saved by using steel for the structure of the building and the strong exterior finishing materials. top ![]() Eco-Cargo 3 Staggering the containers not only provides an interesting esthetic to a simple form, but it allows for an increased upper floor area. The entire design is 775 square feet of interior living space on two levels that can fit on a building site of just over 1000 square feet (the standard lot size in Victoria BC is 5000 square feet). This makes the Eco-Cargo Living Space ideal for urban in-fill lots, back lane lot subdivisions and multiple units on standard building lots. These initiatives allow for higher urban density in residential neighbourhoods rather than urban sprawl into rural (green) areas. top ![]() Eco-Cargo 4 The single forty foot container that makes up the Lower Floor of the Eco-Cargo Living Space is an efficient combination of private space, public space and circulation space. top ![]() Eco-Cargo 5 The Upper Floor is the heart of the home and has the main living area. The Kitchen/Eating area opens to a deck that provides access to the roof top garden (green roof). top ![]() Eco-Cargo 6 The Lounge/Den is a convertible space that is a working environment by day, and (with the help of a large LCD screen) a home theatre by night. top ![]() Eco-Cargo 7 The simple, efficient Lower Floor layout features the Lounge/Den, Second Bedroom and Bathroom. It also accommodates the mechanical and laundry areas located under the stairs adjacent to the Foyer. Alternative floor plan arrangements include 2 bedrooms on the main floor and a reverse Lounge/Bedroom orientation. top ![]() Eco-Cargo 8 The spacious Upper Floor accommodates the main living areas. A multi-purpose Kitchen/Eating area can function as an casual Living Space with the wall mounted LCD screen. An alternative floor plan has the Lounge/Den area on this level while moving the bedroom to the Lower Floor. top ![]() Eco-Cargo 9 The Section demonstrates how the efficient stacking of these containers comfortably accommodates 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, multi-functioning living spaces and the green roof. top ![]() The next step for Eco-Cargo Geoffrey's wish is to acquire support from the local energy supplier to create the Eco-Cargo Living Space as a demonstration home for sustainable living.
